In 1863 Yoshimori published a woodblock-printed picture book entitled Sōmoku Gafu (i.e., Picture Album of Plants). It included the thirty-three pictures shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Typical of mid-nineteenth century Japanese artists, Yoshimori drew plants in only a semi-realistic way. In 1907 black-and-white versions of the pictures were published in a picture book with the title Kachō Gafu (i.e., Picture Album of Flowers and Birds).
